Laravel & AI engineer for Australian teams

If your Laravel application needs a senior engineer rather than another round of an agency's discovery process, the two things that usually matter are whether the time difference is workable and whether you are getting one accountable person or a rotating cast. Both, honestly, up front.

Working hours

India is UTC+5:30 with no daylight saving. Australia's eastern states — Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane — run 4.5 hours ahead in AEST and 5.5 ahead in AEDT during daylight saving. That is the smaller gap of the fully-remote markets I work with, and it lands well: my morning sits inside your afternoon, so a 09:00 start here is roughly 13:30–14:30 your time. That gives several hours of genuine same-day overlap for calls and pairing on most days, not a single narrow evening window like the US gap requires.

Senior engineering time in Australia's major tech hubs is expensive, and that's before the months of hiring before someone actually starts. A fixed-scope audit, rebuild, or feature build from someone who has already done the version of your problem before is a smaller, more specific decision than a long-term hire — and it doesn't require betting on a headcount plan being right.

The more useful difference is who actually does the work. The usual model for offshore engineering is an account manager, a discovery phase, and a delivery team you meet after signing. That's not a scam, it's just how agency economics work — senior time is scarce, so it goes toward sales rather than your codebase. I am one person. The engineer on your first call is the one in your repository afterwards, with nobody to hand you off to.

The overlap works in Australia's favour more than most remote arrangements: a morning start here reaches well into your afternoon, so pairing sessions and standups don't have to be squeezed into a single early or late slot on either side. Async work continues outside that window the same way it would with any remote engineer — you're not paying for idle hours, you're paying for the actual work plus a real live-overlap window most days.

Full-stack, specifically: Laravel for the backend and the application core, React or React Native where the frontend is a genuine application rather than server-rendered pages, Python where a task is actually a Python problem — data pipelines, ML tooling — rather than PHP stretched to cover it, and Rust where raw performance justifies the extra build complexity. AI work means shipping LLM features that hold up against real data and real edge cases — retrieval, structured output, agents a user can trust — not a demo that only survives the pitch.

What this tends to get used for: a Laravel application that has picked up enough shortcuts over time that changing it has gotten expensive; a SaaS product that needs the data model and multi-tenancy decisions made correctly the first time rather than retrofitted later; AI features bolted onto an existing product without a rewrite; performance work on the page or query everyone has learned to route around.

The honest limits: I'm not in Australia, and I don't carry local certifications or an ABN-registered Australian entity — if your procurement requires either, better to know that on the first call than three weeks in. And I'm one engineer, not a bench; for scope that genuinely needs more hands, I bring in developers from partner firms I've delivered alongside, you interview each one, and I stay the person accountable for the result.

Questions
How does the time difference actually work day to day?

India is UTC+5:30 with no daylight saving; AEST is UTC+10 and AEDT is UTC+11. My morning overlaps your afternoon — a 09:00 start here is roughly 13:30–14:30 your time, giving several real hours for calls and pairing most days, with async work continuing outside that window.

Are you based in Australia?

No — based in Ahmedabad, India, working remotely with a 4.5–5.5 hour offset. I don't hold an Australian entity or local certifications, and would rather say so here than have it surface mid-engagement.

What about the Privacy Act and data handling?

Worth raising on the first call rather than assuming. I'm aware of the Privacy Act 1988 and the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme, but I'm not going to claim a specific compliance posture on a page — that gets worked out properly, in writing, before any access to personal data is granted.

Do I get you, or a team I haven't met?

Me, by default. There's no bench and no quiet handoff. If a project genuinely needs more hands, I bring in developers from partner firms I've delivered alongside before, you interview each one, and you're told plainly who employs them.

Something holding you back?

New build, rebuild, or adding AI to what you already have — I'll take a look and give you an honest perspective.
